Ghana-Iran Trade Relations

Trade relations between Ghana and Iran have been modest in spite of the fact that the two countries have the potential to expand their cooperation in many areas to boost trade among themselves. Even though information on the volume of trade between the two countries is scanty, available figures tilt the scale in favour of Iran.

According to figures obtained from the Observatory of Economic Complexity (www.oec.world), during the last 23 years the exports of Ghana to Iran have decreased at an annualized rate of 31%, from $2.3M in 1996 to $453 in 2019, while at the same time, the exports of Iran to Ghana have increased at an annualized rate of 0.31%, from $215,000 in 1996 to $232,000 in 2019.

Potential Areas of Cooperation and Investment

Following the conclusion of the 7th Session of the PJCC in Tehran in May 2022, the two countries agreed to cooperate in the fields of Agriculture, Transport, Housing, Trade, Energy and Mining. Other areas of cooperation include Science, Health, Cultural, Education, Tourism and Youth and Sports.
