Brief On The Embassy

Ghana and Iran established formal diplomatic relations in 1974. Ghana, however, closed its Embassy in Tehran in 1981 and re-opened same in 2008 initially at No. 5 Amiri Souri Street, Zafarenieh but later relocated to its current address at No. 4, 9th Alley, B Street, Moghadas Ardebili Street, Zafarenieh, in March, 2018.

The mission of the Embassy is, inter alia, to promote and protect the national interests of Ghana as well as to enhance the welfare of Ghanaian nationals within the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the other seven countries (Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Syria and Uzbekistan) to which the Embassy is concurrently accredited to.

One of the major responsibilities of the Embassy is to support Ghana’s national objective of diversifying and increasing Ghana’s export base by actively seeking markets for Ghanaian products in Iran and the other countries of concurrent accreditation. The Embassy also supports the transformation and expansion of the tourism industry in Ghana for job creation and revenue generation by marketing Ghana in Iran, and the other countries, as a competitive tourist destination and attracting investment into the industry in Ghana

The Embassy serves as the link between the business communities or private sectors of Ghana and Iran and the countries of concurrent accreditation, and also provides a one stop centre for credible information on the trade and investment opportunities in Ghana.

It further provides consular assistance to Ghanaian nationals living and studying in Iran and other countries of concurrent accreditation, and nationals of Iran and the seven other countries intent on travelling to Ghana for business and tourism.

Since its opening in 2008, four different Ambassadors have variously served as Head of Mission. These are H.E Amb. Ahmed Hassan (from Dec. 2008 to Jan. 2013), H.E. Amb. Gilbert Bawa Ayambilla (from Feb. 2013 to April 2017), H.E. Amb. Mohammed Sayuti Yahaya-Iddi (from Dec. 2017 to Sept. 2020) and the current Ambassador, H.E.
